Gregory’s Mud Challenge

• Held near Gregory Lake
• Organized by the Nuwara Eliya 4×4 Club
• Part of the larger Nuwara Eliya April Season (Avurudu festival period)

What is the Mud Challenge?

It’s an extreme 4x4 off-road competition, not motocross (cars, not bikes), featuring:

• Deep mud pits
• Water crossings
• Steep climbs & drops
• Technical obstacle tracks

The course is designed to test:

• Driver skill
• Vehicle power
• Team coordination

Some tracks include “extreme stages” with heavy mud and angles that even experienced drivers struggle to complete

Why it’s popular

• One of the main attractions of April season
• Draws large crowds + off-road enthusiasts
• Happens alongside:
  • Hill climbs (Radella, Mahagastotte)
  • Horse racing
  • Carnivals & concerts
